In the ineffable silence
the sun disappears
into the earth.
We sit in darkness.
Those who are blind
cannot see.
Those who see
behold obscurity.
The mourners weep,
they perceive no joy,
it disappeared with the sun.
Life was but a moment
a blinking of the eye.
Our ‘why’ has no answer.
The dawn comes not,
nighttime looms in abeyance.
The dusk lingers
obfuscating light,
all in perpetuity.
When will our light come?
Oh that we might understand!
Alas, that we may see
and behold beauty
in the repose of all souls.
Will we see them again
or will they be gone forever?
Shine down upon us
O sun of the day.
Leave the netherworld
and set us in daytime.
We who hope for light
on the other side
of the darkness
must wait until
we too leave
the predictability
of this world.
